Some R&B addresses issues. Some Gospel presents solutions. Put them together & you have Resolved Issues! It can work if God is the foundation.
I received a revelation this weekend why the (black) church in particular has a problem with Gospel artist singing about relationships. The real problem is that we've been trained think God is disrespected if the Song is about a woman or man. If God had a problem with us singing it, He would have a problem with us saying it. I understand songs that are about that step outside the boundaries of honest True Love Songs that are motivated by Lust and perversion, Greed and Self, but honest love songs like "My Girl" or "My Sheri Amour", "Mighty Love" ( y'all don't know nothin bout dat) "You are so beautiful to me" or "Close to you", "betcha by golly wow", "one in a million", "suga pie honey bunch", "Inseparable" "Lets stay together" and thousands more. These Are honest songs that are songs that allow us to communicate how we feel. All though we can say these things verbally we feel there's some sort of blasphemy if we sing them. One problem is that as artist we've pushed the boundaries with ambiguous songs that could be about God or a man or woman which make people leary like something slick is going on. Crossover has become a horrible word. But please don't get it twisted I won't be Ambiguous or unclear. The majority of these songs are love songs about a woman. So we get in the car and hum them around the house, behind closed doors and act like we don't listen to them...LOL #Bondage. As for me, Singing about my true love for a woman, my heartache of losing love, or finding new love. Brotha's some of you can learn from my failure. Especially my brotha's who share the music calling with, describing how it feels the first time you see her and it takes your breath away. How U want to B where she is. How it makes your day better; And it's coming from a Christian mans point of view. Not a perfect man but a Flawed broken victorious Blood washed believer. Or what it feels like to to be on the verge of a break up and you don't know how to get it back.Or what it feels like when you can't wait to get home to your wife after a hard day away from home. Knowing that her Kiss will make everythng ok Or if you're not married and working through the dating thing, or in a long distance relationship longing to be with them to close the deal Singles you shouldn't feel left out, most of these songs will apply to you as well, there is a period of getting to know someone and preparing life to be with someone before marriage. You know after the representative leaves and you find out the person is the real thing and you plan to move forward. That period may take a while, but the whole time your getting to know them you're falling more in love and building a foundation of trust. Take Usher's "There Goes My Baby" A woman should be able to look at her man and say the same thing, "There goes my baby".
"The only way these love songs or any love songs will work is if the person being sung to sings the exact same song back to the person singing"
